Stroke Awareness

Many of you know that this past week our owner, Brandy, suffered a stroke. She is healthy and just turned 30 so this is very alarming. She is currently still in the hospital trying to determine the cause. Here at Sassy we have been trying to decide what charity we will work with over the holidays & have chosen to work with the National Stroke Association in honor of Brandy. We are proud to announce that we will be sponsoring the National Stroke Association this holiday season at Sassy Shortcake Boutique. Throughout the month of December we will donate 5% of all purchases to the organization in order to help raise awareness. We would appreciate your support! Mannequin Tree

On occasion I am known for getting an idea in my head and wanting, no needing, it to happen. 

The mannequin tree was such a time. 

Luckily my husband is pretty handy and can make my "visions" come to life. 

After some explaining of what I wanted for the shop he said he had a way to make it happen and went to the garage to build her. 

He started with a broken mannequin and built a wooden base and skirt. 

After completing the woodwork he wrapped her in a wire mesh. 

Historic Charleston doorways can be tiny! She didn't fit the doorway to go into the boutique.  Due to this we had to break the base off of the bottom to be nailed back with the nail gun later. 

After filling up 8 (yes, I said 8) carts of tree picks at Hobby Lobby, we began weaving those into the mesh wire which ultimately made the beauty below. 

Isn't she pretty?

Healthy Halloween Treat ~ Banana Ghosts

Shortcake's teacher requested a healthy breakfast snack the morning of her Halloween Carnival. Banana ghosts were the perfect choice and are super simple to make. 

    What you need:

• bananas
• chocolate chips (mini work best)

    Steps: 

1. Peel bananas and cut them in half. 
2. At the skinny end of the banana, press in two chocolate chips for the eyes and one for the nose.
3. We recommend waiting until right before the treats are needed to prep since the bananas do tend to turn. (pic was taken 1hr after prep)

Knobs or No Knobs...

We need your vote! Our sales counter was built by our owners husband so that it looks like drawers stacked sideways as if pulled from a chest of drawers and stacked on one another.  She purchased two knobs for each "drawer" but couldn't make the decision as to whether or not to use them. Tuesday Tips & Tricks: Soften those flip flop heels

The Sassy girls found this awesome trick on Pinterest and want to share it with you. 

All it takes is 3 easy ingredients and 30 minutes of relaxation until you are feeling pedicure fresh!

What You need:

• Listerine
• Shaving Cream
• Lotion (a foot moisturizer is good)

Steps:

1. Combine equal parts warm water and Listerine in a bucket or sink
2. Put shaving cream on your feet.
3. Soak a small hand towel in the solution of water and Listerine.
4. While the shaving cream is still on your feet, wrap the wet hand towel around your feet and let it sit for 30 minutes.
5. After 30 minutes, use the towel to rub your feet. You will notice some of the calloused and discolored skin will rub off.
6. Apply a healthy amount of lotion to your feet.
7. Enjoy your smooth, clean feet!

Sorority Showdown

Sassy Shortcake invites you to participate in The Sorority Showdown! We are hosting a competition between the CofC sororities from October 17th - October 31st for a chance to win a private holiday shopping party. The private party will be held in November and will include sips, sweets, swag bags, and 40% off the entire store during the event. The winner will be decided based on total purchases. When shopping in store or online your total purchase will be recorded toward the sorority of your choice. Kappa Delta Night at Sassy Shortcake

Sassy Shortcake had the pleasure of hosting the College of Charleston chapter of Kappa Delta sorority for a private shopping party in our King Street store. We had so much fun enjoying sips and snacks, taking selfies in the dressing room (check out #selfiesatsassy on instagram) and shopping for fall with the KD girls. Who doesn't love shopping for a good cause? A percentage of all purchases made during the event were donated to Darkness to Light.
