Ski Weekend Away : Park City, Utah Edition

Ski Weekend Away: Park City, Utah Edition - What to pack and where to go | Spring Break Series | blog.sassyshortcake.com

With Spring Break just around the corner we are excited to introduce a series of guides featuring the best getaway plans and "must-haves"... we'll help you with what to pack and where to go!

This first list is for our Snow Bunnies

A good ski trip or weekend in the cold means that you'll need some crucial items...

Here is our list of must-haves for this Weekend-Away:

For the slopes
For relaxation - because who doesn't love a good hot tub soak after a day of skiing?
And for a night out on the town - keep it casual with this look to fit the local charm

We can't just tell you what to pack and not tell you where to go, right? Since Park City is our #1 ski destination choice. Here are a few local recommendations if you plan to visit:

Good Karma - Perfect little (healthy) brunch spot!

Jake's Ski Rentals - At the base of Park City Mountain, convenient and very friendly!

Chimayo - Right on Main Street, good eats and Vino for dinner!

No Name Saloon - Right across from Chimayo and a classic locals bar for late night drinks!

Olympic Park - If you need an activity for the whole family this is great. There are awesome ski and snowboard jumps, rides for the family and maybe you'll spot some Olympic athletes in training.

Have one to add to the list? Share with us in the comments!

We hope that you have a blast and only wish that we could come along for the (ski)-run ;)

NYFW Favorites

Friday, February 20, 2015

This past week was the annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC and we are loving some of the looks the designers have come up with.  It will be a very fashionable Fall 2015.
Here are some of our favs...

Mara Hoffman NYFW

1.  Mara Hoffman
We are obsessed with this shirt dress combo! The sleeves are divine and this look is very wearable.

Rebecca Taylor New York Fashion Week

2.  Rebecca Taylor
Pastels are going to be big this fall and this jacket is heavenly! The fur trim is so fun.

Marchesa NYFW

3.  Marchesa
This plunging neckline is daring and sexy with the feathered sparkly look. Would be killer for a date night out!

Alice and Olivia NYFW

4.  Alice & Olivia
Talk about details... sequins, pearls, feathers, gems...

J. Crew New York Fashion Week Pastels

5.  J. Crew
More and more pastels and feathers! We love the shoes and outfit on the left, and are a little befuddled by the suit jumper on the right but it could grow on us! Definitely an interesting trend especially if done right which J. Crew clearly mastered!

Any looks that caught your eye? These are our top 5 but we're sure all the designers put out amazing shows - just wish we could join in on the after parties in one of these amazing styles ;)

Friday Favs | Love

Saturday, February 14, 2015

With Valentines Day almost here, love is in the air!
Here is our Friday Faves list of the top 5 items we are loving this week.

1. Pretty in Pink
What better way to add a little feminine touch to your outfit than with a pink lip color? Our favorite is Chanel’s “Rouge Coco", the perfect shade of light pink with just the right amount of pop.

2. Godiva Chocolate
Bring on the sweetness with a decadent box of Godiva chocolate. We are loving the Strawberry Champagne Truffles, which pair perfectly with your favorite glass of bubbly. Whether you’re buying them for a special someone or celebrating “Galentines” day with your gal pals, this sweet treat is something that everyone is sure to love!

3. Breakfast at Tiffany’s
What better Valentine than Holly Golightly? This classic film is always a favorite, adding the perfect amount of love and style to your Valentine’s Day.

4. Peonies
While you can never go wrong with any flowers, our personal fave are Peonies. These girly bouquets are elegant and fun. We love pale pink and white color blooms. Place them in a brushed glass vase, adding an antique look to this beautiful flower arrangement.

5. Flowerbomb
Smell just as sweet as flowers in Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf. We love this perfume because of the floral note hues of Sambac Jasmine, Centifolia Rose, Cattleya Orchid, Ballerina Freesia, and Patchouli. These romantic scents are the perfect combination for Valentines Day.

We hope that our Friday Faves add some love to your Valentine’s Day! Comment on our Facebook and Instagram with your favorite products this week, and we may feature them next week! As always, stay sassy!

Trendy Tuesday | The It Cut

Tuesday, February 10, 2015

2014 was the year of the chop, and everyone from Lauren Conrad to Kim Kardashian was doing it.

The long bob, often referred to as "the Lob" was seen all over the red carpet and in various celebrity street style as a fresh, edgy take on a previous traditional cut.

Now in 2015, the lob is transitioning into what we call "the Swag."  While hair is still shorter, It Girls are beginning to grow out the chop the littlest bit.

To create this edgy look, hair should appear messier and more tousled. Multiple layers create volume and give hair the body and texture to master the trend.

Popsugar quotes celebrity hairstylist Sunnie Brooke who says, "It's a modern take on the shag haircut. Most shags look like Christmas trees ---- they're not very flattering. So we're swagging it up."

This month's InStyle is calling the chop the "It Cut" of the year. InStyle suggests the length of the long bob should hang somewhere between your chin and collarbone. They suggest that hair is slightly (and by slightly, we mean very slightly) shorter in the back and longer in the front. However, this contrast should not be noticeable.

Luckily for this trend, bedhead never looked so good. It's important to keep the look effortless, a simple "lived in" look makes the cut modern. Along with texturizing through loose waves, ends should be asymmetrical and blended to give off an effortless vibe. The look is to definitely not appear as if you have put any effort into your perfectly tousled hair.

So put down your straightener and don't be afraid to chop off a few extra inches on your next visit to the salon. You will be right in style with no effort at all!

As always, stay sassy!

5 Simple Steps to Hosting a Glamorous Grammy’s Party

Friday, February 6, 2015

T minus 48 hours until showtime! If you’re anything like us, we’re counting down the days, minutes, seconds until the 57th annual Grammy awards.

You don’t have to be on the red carpet to partake in the fun. In fact, with our guide to the ultimate glamorous Grammy’s party (we’re calling it the “Glammy’s”), these easy steps will have you celebrating music’s biggest night in the comfort of your own home!

1. Are you on the Guest List?
Create your own VIP guest list and invite some friends over for the showing! The awards start at 8, but of course you want to catch Live From the Red Carpet beforehand! Begin the festivities a little early to catch your favorite artists sporting fashion’s newest trends. Who knows? You may even get a little outfit inspiration of your own!

2. Pop the Bubbly, Life is Lovely!
Toast to your favorite nominee’s with a nice glass of bubbly, and what better accompaniment to bubbly spirits than this fabulous sparkling cranberry Brie bites recipe? It’s easy to make and a stylish treat.

3. Dress to Impress
Just because you may not actually be at the awards doesn’t mean you shouldn’t dress that way. While you certainly have the option to kick off your stilettos without the paparazzi judging you for doing so, find a killer outfit that you will want to wear all night long! We are loving this Middleton Skirt, which is the perfect shade of midnight blue. Dress it up with a silky blouse or keep the look casual with a fitted crop top. Pair with a fun pair of heels and you’re sure to appear on the “Best Dressed” list tomorrow!

4. Glam Your Do
Style your hair like the A List celebrity you are with this simple yet elegant side pony. It will give you a sophisticated look, and your hair will be out of the way while you are entertaining. For best results, curl the ends of your hair a little bit to create more volume with a thick curling iron. Sweep the hair to one side and fasten loosely with one hair-tie and a couple bobby pins. Spray with a natural-hold hairspray and you’re red carpet ready!

5. Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize
So now that you’ve got your fabulous outfit and trendy hair do, complete your Glammy’s look with a pop of red lipstick. It’s dramatic and fun, and adds sass to any outfit choice. A personal favorite is Pirate by Chanel, a darker red color that is perfect for this time of year. However, if you favor a lighter tone, try out this Tom Ford lipstick in Wild Ginger.

Now it’s time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! LL Cool J will be hosting this year, and we hear that Katy Perry is set to hit the stage again. If it’s anything like her Super Bowl performance, we expect nothing but fabulousness! According to usmagazine.com, Pharell Williams and Sam Smith received six nominations and will do solo performances of their own. Word on the street is that Smith will even perform a duet with Mary J. Blige! Katy Perry and Mary J. Blige flashback to this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, we just can’t get enough! US Mag also confirmed that Madonna will take the stage this year, as well as Rihanna and Kanye performing their new single with Paul McCartney “FourFive Seconds.”

It’s surely been a busy year for these music moguls, but who will go home with the prize?

We want to know what you think! Below is a list of the nominee’s for “Song Of the Year.” Post your vote in a comment on our Facebook post to enter our Glammy Giveaway! Those who guess correctly will be entered to win a Sassy Gift Card for $25. Share this post to get your friends involved, and happy voting! xo

Friday Favs | Red Carpet Ready

Friday, February 6, 2015

It’s that time of the week again, Happy Friday! Here is a list of 5 items we are absolutely loving this week.

Inspired by our Glammy’s post, our Friday Faves list consists of all the necessities to get us red carpet ready.

1. Fun Stilettos
Amp up your shoe game with a pair of stilettos that will have even the best artists coveting your style. This week we are loving these Valentino Rockstud Slingback Pumps in blush. Not only are they Grammy worthy, but these fab finds will look great paired with jeans and a cute top for a night out on the town.

2. Pearly Whites
As the old saying goes, “You’re never fully dressed without your pearls!” This week we’re loving the Pretty Pearls Bangle. It adds the finishing touch to any outfit, giving a feminine flare to your look.

3. Nail Game
Your nails will match the golden gramophone with this sparkly gold color from Essie “Rock at the Top.” Pair it over another color for a dramatic 3D effect or just wear it alone!

4. T Swift
While T Swift may not be taking the stage in performing this year, we are still loving her this week (and every week) for her Shake It Off nomination for Song Of The Year! Don’t forget to comment with your vote on who you think will win Song Of The Year on our Facebook post for a chance to win a $25 Sassy Gift Card!

5. Bubbles
What better way to celebrate the fab artists of this year than with a glass of your favorite bubbly? Our fave is Veuve, and add some strawberries for extra sweetness!

Comment on our Facebook and Instagram posts with your favorite products this week, and we may feature them next week! As always, stay sassy!

Gingham ~ Trendy Tuesday

Tuesday, February 3, 2015

What’s the perfect mix of glam and grunge? Gingham! This fab trend is all the rage for welcoming the warmer weather this Spring.

As the old saying goes, history repeats itself, and while the Gingham print is nothing new, it’s definitely making a comeback for a fresh new look this Spring.

No longer limited to children’s clothing and picnic tables, Gingham is moving from the runways to street style ever so fashionably.

Harpers Bazaar Spring 2015 Runway Report is calling it “Grown Up Gingham.”  Bazaar says, “The graphic pattern gets a sophisticated makeover on ladylike skirts and layering pieces.”

Oscar De La Renta kept this look feminine and fun in his Spring 2015 show by choosing a light, Robin’s Egg blue color medium. He paired it with a flirty, white skirt adding an overall girly tone to the look. The low sneakers keep the sporty vibe while still appearing neat and tailored.

For a more menswear look, we paired our favorite Gingham tunic with black leggings and shooties. For the warmer weather, lose the leggings and pair this boyfriend tunic with a feminine skirt (like featured above) or cute cut offs.

When sporting Gingham, the trick is that less is more. Blue hues help to avoid a picnic table look while appearing chic and trendy. Gingham is also popular in grey tones, to create a more neutral look.

Whether you want to make it feminine and flirty or sporty and sleek, you can’t go wrong with Gingham. This trend is a staple for any fashionista’s wardrobe this Spring.

Happy styling!

Cinderella Day Charleston

Tuesday, February 3, 2015

#CINDERELLADAY2015 will be held on March 7, 2015  and Sassy Shortcake is excited to be a donation center this year!

What is this magical Cinderella Day we speak of?

Focused on helping girls in need, this event matches each girl to a personal assistant (her very own “fairy godmother”) to find the perfect dress and accessories to make her prom a success.

The event is held at the North Charleston Dream Center aiding all the fabulous Cinderella’s from Title I schools surrounding the Charleston area. A place where dreams for many young ladies do come true!

This is the eight consecutive year for this event and the Sassy Girls are so thrilled to be helping with such a special day. We hope you all will rally behind us to help this cause. The goal this year is to serve 400 girls!

Please donate any of your new or gently used gowns (prom or bridesmaid) in all sizes as well as shoes, purses, jewelry, garment bags and any unused makeup products. These generous donations can make a girls night and gives your dress the chance to make someone else feel special and have a night to remember.

Drop off or mail any donations to Sassy Shortcake Boutique located at 237 King Street Charleston, SC between now and March 3rd.

We believe every girl should have the chance to be treated like royalty for the day, don’t you? Thank you in advance for your support and donations!
